Training on Wildlife Crime Leadership Initiative (WCLI) for Prosecutors in Lao PDR

From 18–22 May 2026, the Supreme People’s Prosecutor’s Office of Lao PDR, in collaboration with the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) Lao PDR, officially launched a five-day Wildlife Crime Leadership Initiative (WCLI) training in Luang Prabang.

The training brought together 28 prosecutors and senior officials from the Supreme People’s Prosecutor’s Office and seven provincial prosecutor offices to strengthen leadership, project management, strategic planning, and analytical skills for combating wildlife crime.

Participants exchanged practical experiences, identified challenges and opportunities in wildlife law enforcement across provinces, and developed approaches to improve prosecution and inter-agency cooperation against wildlife crime.

The programme was supported by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) and reflects the continued commitment of Lao PDR and its partners to enhancing the country’s capacity to investigate, prosecute, and combat wildlife crime through stronger leadership and institutional cooperation.
